BMX stands for Bicycle Motocross and born in California (United States) in 1969 when Scott Breithaupt choose to use a bicycle on a Motocross track, mimicking the skills and movements of professional riders. BMX is a more economical alternative than Motocross and is one of the fastest growing sports in the world.
In Costa Rica Bicicross was born about 17 years ago and has just one track across the country located in the Metropolitan La Paz in San Jose. If you are interested in practicing you can do it, the track is for public use and costs a ₡ 1000 for anyone to practice and his companions have free entry. Hours are:
- Tuesday through Thursday from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
- Saturday and Sunday from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
Currently the National Cup Bicicross CR 2015 consisting of 9 dates and two additional dates for the National Championships are run, where in 2015 is the first year that the International Cycling Union (UCI) supports the National Championship awarding points to qualify for space at the Olympics.
The National Bicicross CR Cup 2015
The National Cup has 14 categories, 60 participants and started on February 8, 2015. During the first date include the excellent presentation of Joana Solano Vilchez in the female category, current national runner, mother and student who tells us:
"Each victory is dedicated to my son. I want to prove that being a mother and a student is not a limitation to practice these sports."
