The Costa Rican athlete Nery Brenes finished in eighth and last place in the final of the 400 meters walking distance from the XXII Central American and Caribbean Games 2014 Veracruz, which he handed the crown won in Mayagüez 2010 to the Cuban Raidel Acea.
Acea won the gold medal and left with a personal best, 45.36, followed by compatriot Yoandys Lescay (45.56) and the Venezuelan Alberth Bravo (45.82), who completed the podium that the ticos hoped to see Brenes again.
"I tried to do what I always do, close fast, but this was not one of those occasions. I struck up a bit in the last hundred meters and 350, seeing that I could not make it, I relaxed, there was nothing I can do. At this stage of season you dont run for records, you run for a spot on the podium and then gave up, " admitted Brenes.
The Costa Rican recognized that there is no explanations and justifications for that last place, "That does not explain anything, they won well."
He admitted that the lack of competencies and even have been in recent months without a coach after the break with Walter Salazar, he will now turn the page to start a new stage in Puerto Rico, where he will report to Ludwig coach Jose Rubio and will be recognized fellow Puerto Rican athlete Luguelín Santos.
